Ch Ch Ch Ch Changes in Matter in the Maker Space!

Liquid was probably the matter we noticed the most in term four because of the foamy, bubbly, slimy, oily glorious exploding mess all over the Maker Space.

The Liquids we used included  water, milk, detergent, cooking oil, hydrogen peroxide, PVA glue, hair conditioner and food colouring.
However we also included Solids including cornflour, butter, cardboard, PLA filament (3D printing 'ink') and wire in our experiments.

Of course we would not have been able to change matter without the invisible Gasses of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide.

The change in temperature that the friction of our hands, the reacting chemicals , the hot 3D printer and the even hotter sun provided the final, essential ingredient!

Maker Space Movement- Core Education PD

Making Masks

Making Healthy Food

Team One has been learning how to make healthy food in the Maker Space!

Core Education Maker Space breakfast seminar

In term 3 I attended a Core Education  breakfast seminar on the 'Maker Movement' and how this can be applied to the the classroom and school environment.

This was very interesting listening to and talking with the the facilitator Mark Osborne especially as I was one of few teachers attending who had a full time role as a Maker Space teacher.

The pedagogy and projects covered were inspiring and I am keen to bring what I had observed to Point England. I realised however that my own digital and technical literacy needs to be increased and was very glad to hear of a Maker Space evening club which I will be joining to learn, design and have fun!

Feel free to check out the Core Education Maker Space slideslow
