Ko Te Awa Ahau: Matariki Tree Planting for the Omaru river

Today a group of Year 7 and 8 students joined schools across Glen Innes to plant trees to celebrate Matariki and help protect the Omaru creek.

We were welcomed on to Paddington Reserve by Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Puau Te Moananui a Kiwa and Madave. Auckland Council experts taught us how to plant trees correctly.

Along with the other schools we planted 500 trees in under two hours!

If you want to help out and plant trees for Matariki, there are more opportunities in the next month during the weekends:

  1. Hi my name is Jackson from Awahono School. I liked how you worked together and joined with other schools to plant the trees. It reminded me of when I helped Mum plant her garden.
